What We Do

Humanitarian assistance that addresses immediate needs while supporting pathways to recovery and resilience.

Vanguard Humanity (VH) focuses on supporting people and communities affected by conflict, displacement, natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.

Our humanitarian priorities address essential needs while recognising that recovery requires more than immediate assistance. Restoring stability, strengthening local capacities and creating opportunities for self-reliance are equally important.

With a geographic focus on the Middle East and Africa, VH is developing an integrated, needs-based approach across four core humanitarian sectors.

Our Core Humanitarian Sectors

VH's programme priorities encompass Food Security, Shelter, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, and Livelihoods — interconnected areas essential to humanitarian assistance and recovery.

Livelihoods

Supporting income recovery and opportunities for economic self-reliance.

Crises can disrupt employment, local markets and households' ability to sustain themselves. VH recognises livelihood recovery as an important connection between humanitarian assistance and longer-term resilience.

Areas of Intervention
  • Income-generating activities
  • Skills development
  • Entrepreneurship support
  • Economic inclusion and resilience

Complementary Programme Approaches

Alongside our four core sectors, VH is developing approaches that strengthen flexibility, inclusion and the relevance of humanitarian assistance.

Cash and Voucher Assistance

Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) can enable crisis-affected households to meet priority needs in ways that reflect individual circumstances and preferences.

Where appropriate and supported by market conditions, VH aims to incorporate multipurpose cash assistance, vouchers, market-based responses and suitable digital payment mechanisms.

Such approaches would be informed by needs assessments, safeguarding, financial inclusion and risk management.

Gender-Responsive & Inclusive Programming

Humanitarian crises affect individuals differently depending on gender, age, disability, displacement status and other circumstances.

VH aims to integrate inclusion and gender-responsive considerations across its humanitarian priorities, promoting participation, accessibility and awareness of protection-related risks.

Women's economic participation and empowerment are important considerations in our developing livelihoods and financial inclusion approaches.

How We Approach Humanitarian Response
